The Challenge
The owners of Ash Lodge Care Home in Smethwick had previously used Econergy to supply a solar energy system for another of their care homes. For Ash Lodge, they wanted a solar energy system that would take maximum advantage of their roof to make a substantial and cost effective contribution to the care home’s energy needs.
Why Econergy?
Econergy undertook a detailed survey of the roof features, using drone photography, and designed a system to best use the available roof aspects.
Econergy had previously proven its ability to work in a way that caused minimal disruption to care home operations.
Econergy formulated a system to optimise use of the Ash Lodge Care Home roof and contribute approximately 30% of Ash Lodge's annual electricity needs.
Econergy was able to provide a price that delivered a payback of between three and four years.

Since the system’s installation in mid September 2025 in the first 80 days of operation it has, in mostly winter weather conditions, generated well over 5.5MWh of solar electricity and made a substantial contribution to the care home’s electricity needs.
